Domain lock is a status that can be set by the registrar. It is a free service and helps protecting your domain from thefts or any unauthorized changes. If a domain is in a locked status then in case a registrar receives a request for a domain be transferred, the transfer is automatically rejected. Also, contact details cannot be updated in locked status. Domain renewal is allowed even for locked domains.
Not all domain extensions support lock status.
