This registrar has now been around for several years and has built an established name for itself around the domain industry. That’s partly because the owner (Mr. Reberry) is a pretty successful domain investor himself. Before launching TurnCommerce (the company behind NameBright), Andrew Reberry establish himself as a successful domainer several years ago when he was drop catching and flipping expired domains on a regular basis. NameBright has been accredited since at least 2009, so they are no fly-by-night startup. The company behind them () holds over a million domains and best of all, they currently own an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. According to the RegistrarOwl website, NameBright currently has 791,602 domain names registered under them. Between May and September of 2019 the registrar had transfer gains of 48,874 domains and transfer losses of less than just 6,000 domains. That tells me people are significantly more people are moving domains into NameBright as opposed to those moving them out of the registrar. At the time of gathering this data, NameBright houses mostly .COM domains (96% of them totaling 763,127) with .NET coming in second (3.3% totaling 25,822) and .ORG in third.
When comparing NameBright registration prices to others you will find that they are very competitive. Right now a 1 year .COM is $8.53 (as low as $8.03/year for multiple years) which isn’t bad compared to DynaDot at $6.99 (but $8.99 renewals), NameCheap at $8.88/year, and GoDaddy at $11.99/year.
NameBright Pros & Cons
Some of the best things NameBright offers are cheap and affordable domain pricing, a clean/attractive dashboard and free whois privacy for the first year. Some major NameBright cons would be that whois privacy is only free for the first year, they do not sell web hosting and only have a few payment options which charge higher fee’s compared to some of the other popular domain registrars.
NameBright was developed by a team that is very familiar with the domain industry. They don’t have many bad customer reviews out there, but the website hasn’t changed much over the years. In fact, NameBright still looks similar to exactly how it looked several years ago when it was in it’s early stages. Still, I don’t see this registrar leaving the industry anytime soon. Especially considering they aren’t just in the business of registering domains for companies and individuals. NameBright and TurnCommerce have their hand in everything from new registrations to drop catching and sales. If you’re looking for a reliable and US-based domain registrar then I would recommend giving NameBright some consideration. As I mentioned before, they own an A+ rating with the BBB and you can see by the statistics above (over 700,000 .COMs are currently registered there alone) that plenty of other people trust them with their domain names.
