How To Transfer a Domain from GoDaddy to NameSilo

Domainers with large portfolios renew hundreds and sometimes even thousands of domain names each year. The most successful domain investors are just like any other successful business owner out there. They take the time to determine new ways of cutting down costs and saving a little bit of extra money here and there. One of the best ways to get some relief on all of those yearly renewal fees is by transferring domains from one registrar to another. Sure, you may have scored some nice hand registrations during a $1.99 GoDaddy sale, but now it’s time to renew those names and GoDaddy is going to charge you the full price of over $15/each. Otherwise, maybe you’re someone who prefers a specific registrar (such as GoDaddy) and always keep your domains there no matter what the cost is. That might work if you only own a dozen domains. However, if you’re looking to be a successful investor with lots of domains then a strategy like that will end up costing you tons of excess money. Successful investing requires being smart in more ways then just knowing when to buy a domain for a cheap price and then flipping it for profit. Discover new ways to save a few bucks on each renewal and if you own a few hundred domains you could be saving almost a thousand dollars a year just on renewal fees! Since GoDaddy seems to be the most popular registrar out there, this article is going to show you how you can easily transfer a domain out of GoDaddy (where .COM renewals cost $17.99 per year) over to NameSilo (where .COM renewals only cost $8.99 per year).

Domain Discount Club – One thing I initially forgot to mention when writing this article was that GoDaddy has their own “discount club” for users with lots of domains. It does cost a yearly fee, but gives users with lots of domains the ability to drop renewal fee costs down. If you’re in the discount club .COM renewals cost only $8.49 to renew each year. However, depending on the size of your portfolio and the yearly cost to join the discount club, it might still be cheaper to transfer the domains to NameSilo where you won’t have to pay any additional fees to enjoy cheaper renewal prices.

If you have several domains currently registered with GoDaddy and wish to start transferring them to NameSilo then making this change should easily save you enough extra money each year to make this process worth your time.

Note: Before you begin a domain transfer, visit the NameSilo Transfer Checklist to make sure you’ve done everything required to begin a domain transfer.

1) Unlock Domain – Login to your GoDaddy account and click the “Manage” button in the “Domains” box. Next, check the box(es) next to the domain(s) you would like to transfer and then click on the “Lock” icon. Finally, select “Off” and then press the “Save” button.

2) Retrieve EPP Transfer Code – When viewing your list of domains inside GoDaddy, click on the Domain Name (do not check the box as indicated above to unlock the domain – click on the actual domain name itself which should be written in blue) and then choose the “Email my code” link next to “Authorization Code” at the bottom of the page. Finally, click on the “Send” button (Note that the email address being used may not be your email address. If the email address shown is not an address you can check, please go to the “Update administrative contact email address” section.)

Expediting The Transfer

Once you confirm the email our system sends to the Administrative contact email address, we will submit the transfer(s) to the registry within 15 minutes. Our system and Godaddy’s system will notify you when this occurs. Once this is done, you can log in to your Godaddy account and accept the transfer(s). Doing so negates the need to wait the standard 5-6 days when transferring domains. Once you accept the transfer(s) as instructed below, they will complete within 15 minutes. Here’s how to expedite your domain transfer.

1) Expedite From Inside GoDaddy – Inside your GoDaddy account, click “DOMAINS” from the top of the page and select the “Transfers” option. Next, click on “PENDING TRANSFERS OUT” and check the box(es) next to the domain(s) to accept and then click the “Accept/Decline” icon. In the resulting popup window, select “Accept transfer” and then press OK.

That’s it! Your domain transfer(s) from GoDaddy to NameSilo should now complete within about 15 minutes.
