We have discussed in a previous post how to choose the best possible domain name. I recommend buying a domain name in most cases instead of registering a new one but there are cases when a newly registered domain is just fine. While you can go directly to a registrar and type-in domain names that you have in mind, this is not the best technique to find the best possible option. When you get an already registered message after every try, you might end up registering a too long or meaningless domain name or an unpopular extension, which will hurt your business. Therefore, using a domain name suggestion tool or often called as business name generator is a better idea when registering a new domain name.
We will overview the best domain name suggestion tools in this post. Let’s say we are good at cooking, especially in desserts so we are going to start a blog about it – and looking for domain name ideas. I have tested much more than 5 domain name suggestion tools but these are the ones that really worth trying.
5. Shopify
Shopify domain name suggestion tool does not over-complicate things. They will simply add one more word to your keywords, where .com is available. I like some of the suggestions, e.g. mydessertrecipes.com or dessertrecipesclub.com. The only problem is that these domains are too lengthy, so maybe it is better to use only one keyword. Shopify is not for those who are looking to register a brandable domain or a fancy extension.
4. Panabee
Panabee suggests both keyword rich and brandable domains. Theoretically they don’t just suggest .com but other extensions, too, however only .com is working for me at this time. The only suggestion that I like is dessertrecipez.com, most of the others sound weird.
3. Wordoid
Wordoid is a bit different than the competitors listed here, since it is made to invent new worlds instead of finding keyword rich domains. Still, there is an option to control the beginning or the end of the name, so it is perfect to modify a word in a brandable way. I have to admit I enjoy playing with this website very much and dessertise.com is a suggestion that I like. Wordoid is the best for one word keywords with high competition I think.
2. Namemesh
Namemesh is clearly one of the best if not the best domain name generator. It provides all kind of domains, keyword-rich, funny, nTLD, everything. Their design is also very nice and clear. Mydessertrecipes.com is one of my first choice again, but I would also consider decipes.com.
1. Domainsbot
Domainsbot main strength is that Sedo and GoDaddy marketplace domains are also listed here, improving the quality of the domains in high extent. So I would consider dessertrecipes.net or dessertrecipes.xyz if I am ready to spend more. They also use Thesaurus to find more options, for dessert recipes it does not work really good but it is very useful in most of the times. Maybe I would choose dessertguidelines.com if I have to but it is far from great.
Conclusion
Since all of the domain name generator listed here uses different methodology, it is worth trying all of them, they will suggest different names. If you want to invent a new word, try Wordoid, if you are unsure, try Namemesh, if you are ready to spend, Domainsbot is the best choice. Besides these, Panabee and Shopify also worth trying. Good luck!
Hey Zsolt,
I have used many domain suggestion tools and they all have different features. I like Panabee because of its simplicity and color scheme. I have used them all so I get a good brandable domain name.
I haven’t used Wordoid so I am going to check it ourt.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work Zsolt.

I was wondering how good would something like namemesh be? It seems like it can generate a lot of domain names, but it does not seem to be very brandable from my experience. Wordoid seems pretty cool for trying to create a brandable name though.
